The President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska, Dr. Nenad Stevandić, met today in Banja Luka with the Head of the Special Election Assessment Mission of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) within the OSCE, Matias Eörsi, to discuss the organization and conduct of the upcoming early elections for the President of the Republic of Srpska.
President Stevandić emphasized that the current campaign for the early elections is proceeding peacefully and that all candidates have equal opportunities to present their programs to the citizens.
He informed the Mission about the catastrophic consequences arising from the undemocratic and unilateral decisions of Christian Schmidt, which made it impossible to finance certain political parties. This, he stressed, has seriously and directly undermined the democratic process in Republic of Srpska. He pointed out that he expects the ODIHR representatives to better understand the current situation and contribute to a comprehensive stabilization of conditions.
The meeting was also attended by Elisavet Karagiannidou, Deputy Head of the Mission, Dimash Alzhanov, Political Analyst, and Mariam Tabatadze, Legal Analyst, in addition to Matias Eörsi.
