During the summer break in the building of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska the installation of a panoramic elevator for persons with disabilities was completed, which also eliminated the last architectural barrier that enabled people with disabilities to move unobstructed inside the whole building and access to the cabinets of the president, vice president, small hall, committees and parliamentary clubs.

"With the completion of the elevator construction, as well as the toilet for disabled people in the National Assembly building, the investment plan for this year is fully completed. Considering that earlier on the entrance was built a ramp for wheelchairs, as well as three mobile ramps which enabled undisturbed access to persons with disabilities to the ground floor of the building, the last obstacles for access and movement of disabled persons were removed on the first and second floors of the National Assembly building" said General Secretary of the National Assembly Marko Aćić.

He stressed that the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska has fulfilled the demands of numerous non-governmental organizations that bring together people with disabilities or are concerned with the protection of their rights that have insisted on solving this problem for years, as well as recommendations of the Ombudsman of BiH from the Special Report on the Accessibility of Working Areas of Legislative Bodies in BiH for persons with disabilities", from January 2016.

The Ombudsmen of BiH in that report called on those legislative bodies in BiH who have not arranged their working premises in such a way that they are accessible for persons with disabilities, primarily in architectural terms, to do so as soon as possible in accordance with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which BiH ratified in 2009.
